Social Media Networking Technologies Introduction The potential of social media to significantly improve the performance of enterprises by accelerating collaboration, communication and creating a greater level of knowledge sharing is seen across a myriad of commercial, educational and government implementations. The intent of this analysis is to evaluate the use of two social networking technologies that the university can use to accelerate and accentuate their learning objects. The strengths and weaknesses of two social networking technologies are evaluated, in addition to an analysis of how they will impact the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) of existing university IT investment. Social Media and Networking Technologies Contribution to Education The cornerstones of long-term learning are autonomy, mastery and purpose. The use of electronic scaffolding as a means to enable autonomy, mastery of learning programs in general and the use of social media specifically shows significant pontifical for higher education institutions (Najjar, 2008). The technologies chosen for the university are designed to allow for very precise scaffolding of educational content while also allowing for rapid collaboration and communication across departments and between students and instructors.
